The Ninth Day of the Month of January

Menologion

Troparion of the Feast Tone 1

When Thou wast baptized in the Jordan, O Lord,/ the worship of the Trinity made its appearance./ For the voice of the Father bore witness to Thee/ when He called Thee His beloved Son./ And the Spirit in the form of a dove/ confirmed the truth of the word./ O Christ our God, Who hast appeared and hast enlightened the world,/ glory to Thee!

Troparion of St. Philip Tone 8

Successor of first Hierarchs, pillar of Orthodoxy, champion of truth and new confessor,/ thou didst lay down thy life for thy flock./ As thou hast boldness towards Christ, O Philip, pray for suffering Russia/ and for those who honour thy memory.

Troparion of St. Polyeuctos Tone l

The light of godliness shines on thee from heaven,/ and thou didst become a noble soldier of Christ./ When thou wast beheaded thou wast numbered with the choirs of martyrs,/ with whom, O noble Polyeuctos, ever pray for those who cry:/ Glory to Him Who has strengthened thee; glory to Him Who has crowned thee;/ glory to Him Who through thee works healings for all.

Kontakion of the Feast Tone 4

Thou hast appeared today to the world,/ and Thy light, O Lord, has been signed upon us/ who with full knowledge sing to Thee./ Thou hast come, Thou hast appeared,/ O Unapproachable Light.

Kontakion of St. Philip Tone 3

Let us praise wise Philip, guide and teacher of Orthodoxy,/ herald of the truth and emulator of the Golden Mouth,/ the lamp of Russia who fed his children with divine words;/ for by chanting with his tongue he taught us to praise with our lips,/ as a noble vessel of the grace of God.

Kontakion of St. Polyeuctos Tone 4

When the Savior bowed His head at the Jordan,/ the heads of the dragons were crushed;/ when Polyeuctos was beheaded, he put the wily one to shame.
