St Nicholas Church of North Bank (Jiangbei)

IVANOV ALEXEY AFANASIC (1874-1944) began building the temple in 1923 and completed in 1928. The original location of this Church was in an area which the Russians called Zaton at Linjiang Street, Taiyangdao, Harbin along the North Bank of the Songhua (Sungari) River.

According to Harbin Diocese - Parishes in China for 1929, the Temple in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The new stone church was built in 1928. The rector of the church was Archpriest Mikhail Petrovich ROGOZHIN. At the church there was a Higher Primary School, a parish library, a playground and an outpatient clinic.

According to Harbin municipal religious archive, the first rector was Fr M. Rogozin (1923-1931), Fr Alexander Lukin served as the second rector (1931-1937), and Fr Nikolai Starikov served as the fourth rector (1943-1951).

The church was closed in 1955. The iconostasis was removed by Fr. N. Starikov when Russians were immigrating from China to Australia and now decorates St. George Russian Orthodox Church, Carlto, Australia. [forum.vgd.ru]

It was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.
