St. John of Shanghai is prayerfully commemorated in Shanghai

July 1, 2010, on the eve of the Commmemoration Day of St. John of Shanghai, Archpriest Alexei Kiselevich, dean of Shanghai's Orthodox Community in St Nicholas Church served a "moleben" (prayer service) with an Akathist to this holy man of God.

Prayers were raised by the representatives of Shanghai's Orthodox community, guests of the World Exhibition EXPO-2010 from Orthodox countries. Representatives of local government were also present in the church.

"Balkanopolis", a choir of traditional Balkan music from Serbia sang the responses and at the end of the "moleben" gave a concert of spiritual hymns.

Shanghai's authorities permitted the local Orthodox community to hold regular services at the time of the EXPO-2010, from May 1 of this year. The creative group "Balkanopolis" came to Shanghai in conjunction with "the Day of Serbia" at EXPO.
