In view of the abbreviated name of the Cathedral, "Holy Sorrowing" (Свято-Скорбященский) which has come into use, it is to be made clear that the cathedral dedicated to the Most Holy Mother of God has as its patronal icon not an image of the Sorrowing Mother of God but the image, "Joy of All Who Sorrowing," representing the joy of all those whom she nourishes and comforts. Because it personifies joy and not sorrow, this icon and the cathedral bearing its name should be called "Joy of the Sorrowing" or "Joy to the Sorrowing," whenever its name is abbreviated.
