4.6. The Chinese Autonomous Orthodox Church. The Cultural revolution

After assignation of Mission and departure China Russian priests unique bishop within the limits of China remained Shanghai preosvjashchennyj Simeon (Du). As archimandrite Vasily (SHuan) has not been erected yet in a dignity of bishop, lord Simeon undertook all measures that most to head Orthodox Church in China [13.]

Lord Simeon on October, 19th, 1956 has arrived to Beijing where has stopped in arhierejskih pokojah the former Chief of Mission. During the stay in Beijing lord Simeon arranged assemblies twice, on which lifted a question on heading the Chinese Orthodox Church. And nevertheless attempt of lord Simeona to approve the positions in Beijing is not has gone right [13.]

At this time in Moscow plans so tightened and not so church reform not suffered delay in China were quickly discussed. The department of cults at the State Council of the Peoples Republic of China has been informed on opinion of the Patriarchy on the organization of management of Orthodox Church in the Peoples Republic of China. On November, 23rd, 1956 in session of the Sacred Synod the project about talent of an autonomy of the Chinese Orthodox Church has been approved [13.]

Shortly in 1957 there was the important event, concerning histories albazintsev in China. In embassy of the USSR under the order of the ambassador of Item of F.Yudin have destroyed a temple of Sacred Martyrs, vozdvignutyj on blood of martyrs of revolt ihetuanej and a belltower. Uspensky the temple has been altered in ambassadorial garage, a vestry - in a consular department, and Piously-eiiieaiouaaneee a temple - in a hall for receptions and hotel of embassy [13.]

Before, the Soviet authorities have expelled from Bejguanja albazintsev, people who lived there from generation to generation and to which this place belonged by the right.

In the beginning of January, 1957 the department of cults at the State Council of the Peoples Republic of China has given the consent to a trip of archimandrite Vasily to Moscow, and on May, 28th, 1957 in a boardroom of the Sacred Synod of Russian Orthodox Church it has been named in bishop Beijing. Having returned to China, bishop Vasily should be selected by the chapter of the Chinese Orthodox Church. For this purpose it was necessary to call the Cathedral, however a position of bishop Simeona actually promoted division of clergy on two camps, has prevented to this event [13.]

In the end of 50th years approach of "cultural revolution" already was everywhere felt. Soon the Chinese authorities have suggested to leave limits of the Peoples Republic of China to all Russian which are not had citizenship of the Peoples Republic of China. By virtue of new circumstances, orthodox Chineses remains very little. The church life almost has completely stood [12.]

In 1960 bishop Vasily was seriously sick, and on January, 3rd, 1962 it has died. On its burial on January, 11th there were also representatives of Central administrative board on affairs of cults of the Peoples Republic of China. Bishop Beijing Vasily was pogreben on a cemetery for Andinmenskimi a gate near to chiefs of the eighteenth and nineteenth missions - metropolitan Beijing Innokentiem and archbishop Beijing Simonom. In the same place were sacred power of martyrs of revolt ihetuanej [12].

After death of bishop Vasily archpriest Nikolay Li has entered a post time operating the Beijing diocese. In the middle of 1964 in Beijing last temple has been closed. It has been transformed into a warehouse. The property of a temple has been taken away in a unknown direction. Churches and in other cities of China have been closed. And on March, 3rd, 1965 in Shanghai last Chinese bishop Simeon [13.] Has died

In August, 1966 Harbin temples have undergone to attacks hunvejbinov. After closing Piously-eaa?neiai a temple in it the sewing workshop has been arranged. The piously-Sofia temple has been transformed into a working hostel. Piously-aeaenaaaneee the temple is reconstructed under a dining room and a grocery warehouse [12.]

The orthodox clergy has suffered From movement hunvejbinov also. Priests dressed up in shutovskie dressing gownes, smeared persons with soot, covered with posters with blasphemous inscriptions, crosses yielded and in such kind drove on streets. Them beat, the crowd showered with their curses, scoffing above orthodox relics. Many priests after national mockeries judged and have sentenced to long punishments on works in mines and stone quarries [13.]

There Were cases and very severe mockeries at priests.

" More all have suffered archpriest Stefan At, last prior Piously-aeaenaaaneiai a temple in Modjagou. Before its temple have put a table on which filled sharp rubble, and on rubble have put on knees of archpriest Stefana. It have dressed in shutovskoj a dressing gown, on a head have set up a cap filled by metal shavings. Its person have smeared with soot. Within two day of father Stefana beat a wooden hammer on a head, beat steel palkami on shoulders, spat on a cross while, half-dead, it have not brought to prison hospital. Having treated it it is a little, in the same place in prison also have shot [13.]

Thus, because of political events, the Chinese Orthodox Church has appeared forbidden. But, despite of political reprisals and absence of the churches, many Albazinian kept orthodox belief.

Authors of many works consider, that Albazinian have not undergone to full assimilation mainly because in current of all time the Orthodox church kept in touch with them and kept orthodox traditions. Therefore in due time, still even up to a cultural revolution, Century of Item of Peters expressed fears in occasion of preservation albazintsev as separate group, including, that they is undergone in full assimilation:

" Events, proisshedshie in China after the Second World war and capture of the country by communists, certainly, have considerably changed position albazintsev. Now, possibly, they finally will merge and assimilate in the Chinese sea, in particular also because all religious activity in China now in a shelter. A withdrawal from spiritual mission, prosecution for religious activity, will certainly put an end to this fascinating and bright episode in history of the ?onnei-Chinese attitudes and in a life and activity of Russian Spiritual Mission, will put an end to existence of an original ethnic group in China, carrying the name " albazintsev " " [12, 42-43].

But it has not occured. It is natural, what there is a question - why?

Probably, that on this period of history to preservation of Orthodoxy, and also, to that Albazinian still continued to feel itself as descendants of Russian and to betray to it value, in any measure special attitudes between the USSR and the Peoples Republic of China during after 1949 and up to the end of 50-s' promoted. In fact at this particular time huge cultural influence of Russia on China is traced. In the Peoples Republic of China as never the Russian literature, cinema, etc. before extended, and at schools Russian was taught. In spite of the fact that the period of " brotherly friendship " between two countries proceeded not for long enough, for this time Russian culture has rendered huge influence on Chinese, and till now we can observe echoes of it, especially among already elderly Chineses.

It is possible to notice, that many of the senior generation albazintsev not bad speak Russian (though the some people learned it, but have forgotten in due course because of absence of practice).

Propagation of Russian culture during this period, undoubtedly, should promote that Albazinian recollected the roots, testing some pride of that it was, partly, and their culture.

Thus, probably, that distribution of Russian culture to China has at that time helped albazintsam to go through the period of full break of attitudes following it between China and Russia.
