Desktop Orthodox Calendar
for 2006 in the Chinese language

The Orthodox Brotherhood of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Hong Kong (Moscow Patriarchate) has published a 2006 calendar in the Chinese language for distribution. It is a full color 110 page calendar. Commemoration of the saints and fast days are noted, along with the daily lectionary reading from the Holy Scriptures. A summary about the Orthodox Church is published at the end of the calendar. In the present edition, saint names have been translated into the modern Chinese language, thus establishing lexical norms for the first time allowing for the subsequent translations to draw from.

Both Russian and Greek calendars have been consulted in drafting up this desktop calendar. In addition, the calendar includes local saints that are commemorated in Cyprus, Serbia, Romania, Georgia and many others locales. Also included are many pre-schism Western saints (e.g. Britain, Gaul, and Germanic). Such is in spirit with St John (Maximovich) of San Francisco and Shanghai who researched and promoted the veneration of local saints wherever he went, whether the new martyrs of China or the saints of pre-schism Europe.
